Paul Shafer from "The Story of Us" podcast stops by to talk about creating his podcast. Getting everything just right before launching. He talks his fears and hopes for the podcast as well as finding the right co-host. Also, how difficult is it to sell a podcast where the content is always about a new person? As you'll learn, it might not be that hard at all. We all love a good story! That's what this podcast exceeds in doing...telling a good human story. Multiple Book Author and Podcaster, Grammar Girl joins us this week to talk about accidently building her Grammar Empire. On top of a few degrees and being a master at everything I learn that she's also designed her own "Word Game" for the iPad! She's smart, friendly and fun to talk too. Her podcast is only a few minutes long but she's great at making it both fun and informative. Mignon was a pleasure to talk to, I'm hoping to find a way to have her on the show again in the future, though I just won't trust her to hold a microphone! Ha! (you'll have to listen to the episode to see why) If you're looking for ways to keep your podcast fun, informative as well as find ways to attract and keep your audience then this episode is for you! You can find Mignon on twitter @grammargirl as well as over at grammargirl.com. Also, look for her new game, "Grammar POP" on your iDevice! Daniel J. Lewis from "The Audacity to Podcast" visits Podcasting 101 to talk all things podcasting. If you haven't guessed by now...it's sort of what we both do. Though Daniel had been around quite a bit longer than I. He's got this "How to" podcasting thing down! Wait...wait...before you click unsubscribe and hightail it over to his podcast I would just like to say...there is room in your feed for both of ours shows! LOL Daniel also runs his own network, Noodle.mx network. He has a handful of shows on the network as well as another fist full of shows that he has brought into the network. He has a ton of advice to give and hands it out freely on this show...not to mention weekly on his podcast...and his blog! This man is a jack of all trades when it comes to podcasting. Without even knowing it he's kind of a mentor, I think he's doing great things for us podcasters and for that I'd like to say thank you! Now, we do things a bit different, and thats ok...but at the end of the day we both love podcasting and we both love helping people out! Also, if you're looking to run a companion podcast, a podcast about a TV show series then this episode goes deap into how exactly to go about doing that. Lots of great information! This is something that I've been working on myself. I soon will be launching my own "Companion TV show podcast" so it was something that I was interested in learning! Also, in the near future I hope to have running blog up soon on the "Under re-construction" website and I hope I can be half as helpful as Daniel. I really do recommend checking out his website and saying hey to him on Twitter @TheRamenNoodle. Thanks again Daniel for coming on the show and I hope we get a chance to yap again in the future! I sat down with the guys from ALL US GEEKS to talk about their show, there particular niche for geek and everything else that goes into building a podcast. Social Media Marketing is the name of the podcast our guest Michael Stelzner is from, so of course we talk all things Marketing in this episode of Podcasting101. Are spreading the word of your podcast across all social media platforms? Also, how important is the written blog in the world of podcasting. Michael says that's easy, your podcast feed is already a blog...use it! Social Media Marketing has been out for just over a year and already has over a million downloads. It's averaging 21,000 downloads a week now. If you're looking for those types of numbers than I suggest you sit back, relax and enjoy the next 45 minutes! Oh, take notes if you'd like, I did! Thanks for all the downloads everyone! Just counting the downloads from our first FULL Month, you've helped us get over 9,100 downloads! That is amazing! Building your podcasting audience is a constent struggle. Even when your doing good, you want to do better! Tyler Smith is the host of Battleship Pretension, a podcast that delves deep into the structure and theory of film. Co-host David Bax (absent) and Tyler have built their podcast for the last 6 years and still struggle to get it to a place they are happy with. This is a common theme amongst podcasters, What defines a successfull podcast, A small legion of loyal listeners or is it just a numbers game? Does a large number of downloads define success? Of course our guest is the host of a movie podcast so there this episode is layered in a bit of film talk but we also talk Equipment as well as spend some time on how to market a podcast. This is an always changing, ever evolving creature in the podcasting world. If there is one way that will always show results, big or small, seems to be the guest host. With a guest host brings the possiblity of their fans following them to the show and if they like what they hear, perhaps they'll subscribe and stick around. If you're a smart podcaster you're always learning and always adapting. If you're a new podcaster...hit the subscribe button and listen to this episode and the episodes that have come before it. Everyone runs thier show a little bit different. It's not really what's right and wrong (don't get me wrong, there are both) but it's how you use the information handed to you and make it work for your show! As always, we'd love to hear from you! You can contact us via... Twitter: @Podcaster101 Email: 7DAGpodcasting101@gmail.com Voicemail: 206-424-0772 Just announce in this episode, we will be adding a few things to the format of this show. If you've got a question you'd like an answer to, then call the voicemail and each week our guest, along with myself will try to answer your question with whatever knowledge we possess. Please help spread the word about this show by giving us a thumbs up on Stitcher and sharing the show on your social media sites. Subscribe on iTunes and share the links with your friends. We talk screenwriting for the radio drama, he gives us insite as to how he schedules his team of sound designers, actors and editors. The great thing about his story is he started out small just like all of us. He had a dream of telling a great story and built his audience by word of mouth. 20 listeners here...another 30 there. It took a while for him to reach the audience he has now. Millions of downloads to be exact. Hard work pays off. We're Alive is now part of the Nerdist Network and deservedly so. Podcasters using Skype for their interviews will want to listen to this one. The hosts of Beyond The 140, a play on the amount of characters allowed on Twitter, run thier whole podcast off of Skype. They are both in 2 seperate states. They've never even met. Every week they invite someone who's "Twitter Famous" to come on their show and have a chat. We also talk a lot about scheduling a show. Keeping in constent contact with the guest leading up to the interview is key. Having a Pre-show call is also very benificial. It helps all 3 get close like freinds. This show's in the interview. @IAmDelFreaky and @JCWisdomNuggets have got a lot of great nuggets (pun intended) to share with first time podcasters or any podcaster for that matter. If you're looking to do more interviews or want a good template to create for you to manage your show's upcoming interviews then you can learn a lot from these guys! @PTPpodcast stops by the studio to talk a little podcasting this week! Before we even get started, seeing how they're a Canadian based trio, we had to ask them a few questions about the old TV show "You Can't Do That On Television." We quickly learn that though they've heard of it, they are to young to have seen it. Shannon, Justin and Justin all come from a background in radio/broadcasting! They're the real deal. They take us from thier days at a college radio station to their first days of podcasting. From great studio equipment to just a macbook with a built-in-microphone they plug away at their podcast dream like an indie band that could! ...and they do! This group has tons of advice to give and a great sense of humor. *NSFW*** This episode has a few crude jokes. Though I try to keep this show away from the dirty side of humor...sometimes it's just got to happen. If that offends you, just skip this episode and we'll be on our best behavior most of the time.... In this episode of Podcasting 101, we sit down with one of London's top award winning podcasters to talk about all things podcasting. From their humble beginnings, all the way as they rise to the top. Leanne Rice (whom we actually speak to in this episode) and her podcasting partner Sara started just under 2 years ago with just a podcast and now they are running a little media empire! All of it they do while eating cake, drinking tea and bringing lots of funny! Great information is given on both Scheduling and Monetizing a podcast. Don't miss this episode! Thanks again Lea for putting up with our silly shenanigan's! I learned a lot from you and I know our listeners will too! |
